Second pig heart transplant patient dies six weeks after procedure

The second patient to be transplanted with a genetically modified pig’s heart has died.
Lawrence Faucette was first admitted to hospital on 14 September with symptoms of end-stage congestive heart failure resulting from advanced peripheral vascular disease.
He underwent the transplant six days later.
Initially, doctors at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore said he was making significant progress, including participating in physical therapy and spending time with this family.
