Give all GPs greater role in ADHD diagnosis and prescribing: Senate inquiry

GPs should be able to diagnose and manage patients with ADHD, and psychostimulant prescribing rules should be nationally consistent, a twice-delayed Senate report recommends.
In a 304-page report tabled on Monday night, Senators said they were “persuaded” by calls for GPs to play a greater role in ADHD management.
“GPs appear well positioned to expand their role as it relates to ADHD management, particularly in the co-management and co-prescribing of medications to support people with ADHD,” the inquiry into assessment and support services for people with ADHD concluded.
“Shared care will help to address the long wait times, and allow people to have an appointment with a clinician who best meets their needs.”
