Senator’s message to burnt-out GPs: ‘You’re completely self-serving’

GPs pleading for assistance after battling burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic are being “completely self-serving”, a government senator has declared.
On Monday, witnesses fronted a federal Senate hearing to warn that GPs were “burning out and copping abuse from patients” as a result of a shortage of doctors in outer-metro areas, which lost their workforce priority status three years ago.
But Liberal Party Senator Hollie Hughes was not impressed.
“I do find it offensive that someone who is 10 minutes out of a CBD wants to be considered the same as someone who lives three and a half hours from a regional centre,” she said.
