Senator’s message to burnt-out GPs: ‘You’re completely self-serving’

GPs pleading for assistance after battling burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic are being “completely self-serving”, a government senator has declared. 

On Monday, witnesses fronted a federal Senate hearing to warn that GPs were “burning out and copping abuse from patients” as a result of a shortage of doctors in outer-metro areas, which lost their workforce priority status three years ago.
