‘She spent her life caring for us’: Nursing leaders rally around critically injured MP Helen Haines
Health leaders have rallied around critically injured MP Helen Haines, praising her decades of service to nursing — and recalling her compassion in caring for patients.
Ms Haines is in a critical but stable condition in Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital after being hit by a Toyota LandCruiser outside her electorate office in Wangaratta. Police allege it was a targeted attack.
She has now had both legs amputated in separate surgeries following the incident.
Brendan Nugent, 43, has been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, intentionally causing serious injury, and the Commonwealth offence of causing harm to a Commonwealth public official.
