Shingles pharmacy trial guidelines ‘updated’ after ophthalmologists flag error

NSW Health has now updated its pharmacy trial guidelines after ophthalmologists picked up an error in identifying two types of herpes zoster.
The department confirmed last week that the clinical guidance governing the trial had been updated.
“Patient safety was not considered compromised, but clarification was provided,” a NSW Health spokesperson said in a statement.
Earlier this month, a team from Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services and UNSW Sydney pointed out an error they had found in the guidance in a letter published in The Medical Journal of Australia.
