‘Significant prejudice’ influenced negligence claim against GP: Supreme Court

A mother’s stress and trauma after her daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia contributed to her making “fanciful” allegations against her GP, a court has found.
The Sydney GP was accused of calling the mother a hypochondriac and threatening to ban her from the practice if she tried to make further appointments for her daughter.
He first saw the toddler in 2013 during an antenatal consultation for her mother, who mentioned in passing that the girl had been vomiting upon waking for the previous five days.
The GP told the NSW Supreme Court that he diagnosed possible gastroenteritis and advised the mother to bring the girl back in after a few days.
