RACGP wants to make IMG bureaucracy ‘simpler and cheaper’

The college says it wants the process to be fair for IMGs.

The RACGP is weighing up changes to IMG assessments, including scrapping a mandatory reflective essay and easing supervised practice requirements for its Fellowship Support Program.

The college will also consider educating IMGs on Medicare before they arrive in Australia to prepare them more quickly for independent practice.

RACGP president Dr Nicole Higgins says the college wants to make IMGs’ journeys “simpler and cheaper” in response to a review of IMG bureaucracy by former mental health commissioner Robyn Kruk

An interim report, published in May, urged the government to cut “duplicative and inconsistent” IMG red tape for the sake of the GP workforce.
