Some practices are spending up to $75,000 to get through accreditation, investigators told
Unaccredited practices are usually small clinics that say they cannot dedicate the resources needed for compliance.
Practice accreditation is effectively a way to funnel money to bigger clinics in wealthier areas, while small clinics go without.
At least, that is what a recent report produced for the Federal Government found.
Some 84% of practices have National General Practice Accreditation which gives them access to thousands of dollars of government funds from various programs.
Although it was written two years ago, the government has only just publicly released a ‘Gap Analysis’ report into why the other 16% of practices have not gone through accreditation.
