A doctor has been suspended for six weeks after writing on an online forum that a woman should “be abandoned in India and repeatedly raped”.

The emergency medicine registrar was initially reported to the Medical Board of Australia for a series of comments he made on a technology website based in Singapore called Hardware Zone while he was working at Royal Hobart Hospital in December 2016.

In a reference to a female commenter, who had apparently posted a comment about servicemen he said was “derogatory”, he wrote: “This kind will never learn. She needs to be abandoned in India and repeatedly raped in order for her to wake up her idea.

Half an hour later he added: “What would you rather me say, hmm. That hers was a misguided outburst? That she should be left off the hook? Well that ain’t my style, mister…Some women deserve to be raped and that supercilious little bitch fits the bill in every way.”
