Doctors in Spain have demanded action after authorities reported 14% of the country’s nearly 40,000 coronavirus infections are among health workers.

A doctors’ union says it has filed a lawsuit calling for protective equipment within 24 hours, while nursing union SATSE says Madrid’s hospitals are on “the verge of collapse” and need urgent support.

Madrid’s AMYTS doctors’ union says it has started legal action to force the regional health authority to deliver scrubs, masks and goggles to hospitals and other health centres.

A spokesperson for the authority declined to comment.
