Specialists are facing a concerted public campaign about their fees — with the media awash with numerous allegations that some are profiteering on the back of the care they provide.
A revamped version of the Medical Costs Finder website listing their fees is being rolled out and there are even discussions within government to effectively ban those charging so-called excessive fees from accessing Medicare.
The AMA has hit back with a new campaign aimed at the general public with its own list of fixes.
“It’s clear that just blaming providers — whether insurers, doctors or hospitals — doesn’t bring costs down or ensure sustainability,” said president Dr Danielle McMullen.
