Specialists given right to appeal errors on Mark Butler’s mandatory fee website

Specialists will also be able to fill in a text box to explain their fees.

Specialists will be given a formal pathway to challenge fee information published about them on the Federal Government’s revamped Medical Costs Finder, following changes to legislation passed by Parliament this week.

The names of all specialists along with their fees and likely out-of-pocket costs will be published on the website in a major revamp expected later this year or early next year.

Under the mandatory system, the information will be pulled from Medicare, hospital and private health insurance data.

Given the potential complexity of medical fees, there have been concerns about inaccuracies and potential misinformation, with no explicit mechanism for doctors to challenge mistakes.
