Spectators at cricket pose an ‘unnecessary risk’: AMA

President Dr Omar Khorshid says the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground should be a crowd-free event

The AMA has called for the Test match between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground to be held without spectators, saying the event has the potential to be a ‘super spreader’.

AMA president Dr Omar Khorshid has urged the NSW government to rethink its decision allowing the match to go ahead with caps on crowd numbers.

Holding the test with spectators was “an unnecessary risk to the health” of NSW, given the ease of transmission in the latest outbreaks, he claimed.

Dr Khorshid said the Sydney Test, due to start on Thursday 7 January, should be played in front of either no crowd or just a handful of fans to allow stringent social distancing.
