Stars in her eyes: Dr Alicia Tucker’s mission to become Australia’s next astronaut

As an expert in survival medicine, the next frontier for the emergency physician from Hobart might be in orbit.

Medicine has taken emergency specialist Dr Alicia Tucker from the ice of Antarctica to the dust of the outback — and may one day take her into space.

As an expert in extreme medicine, she has a role with a commercial space company, Virgin Galactic, which she hopes may one day take her to the final frontier.

“As far-fetched as it seems now, space travel is coming,” she says. “And for my boys, aged 12 and 13, in the future, it will be a normal thing.

“As for me, I’d love to go to space, I think it would be an amazing experience.”
