A $10,000 cash incentive is being used to convince doctors of the benefits of a life in the country, as one state tries to plug a regional GP shortage.

The one-off payment will be offered to doctors who move to 32 country towns in SA, including Renmark on the Murray River and the wine country town of Clare, to set up practice or work in a hospital.

Announced on Wednesday, it comes on top of an existing attraction payment of up to $50,000.

‘It demonstrates that there has never been a better time for GPs choosing to make a tree or sea change to a regional area”, Minister for Health Chris Picton said.
