$2.7 million urgent care clinic ‘paused’ six weeks after opening

This story has been updated with details from the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network about the clinic’s future.
An urgent care centre has shut down temporarily after just six weeks due to the lack of GP interest.
The NSW Government had provided $2.66 million over two years for an urgent care clinic in Armidale in northeast NSW, operating out of an existing student clinic at the University of New England (UNE).
It opened with fanfare on 28 June, with NSW Health saying it would stay open eight hours a day, “365 days a year … with the potential for opening hours to further expand as demand increases”.
