‘Status quo is working’: GP supervisors oppose radical training revamp

Most GP supervisors are supportive of the current GP training program, believe the system works and that no radical change is needed, a survey suggests.
The Department of Health is considering revamping the Australian General Practice Training Program, which hasn’t filled its annual quota of 1500 places since 2017.
With the RACGP and ACRRM slowly taking back control of the program, there has been uncertainty over the future of regional training organisations and whether they can deliver more GPs to rural areas.
GP Supervisors Australia (GPSA) says a poll of its members shows the sector may not actually want to “undergo radical change”.
