Stigma of being ‘the abortion GP’ will diminish after TGA reforms, says MSI Australia

Scrapping registration rules for GPs who prescribe MS-2 Step should stop the ‘abortion doctor’ stigma deterring new providers, says MSI Australia.
From 1 August, GPs will no longer have to re-sit a three-hour training course every three years and register with drug sponsor MS Health to prescribe MS-2 Step (mifepristone and misoprostol).
Dr Philip Goldstone, MSI Australia’s medical director, said even though the register was not public, the rules made GPs uncomfortable.
“It gave the impression that medical abortion provision was difficult or complicated in some way, which potentially put off some GPs,” Dr Goldstone told AusDoc.
