Stopping 60-day dispensing still an option, says Coalition

The Coalition will launch a fresh bid to overturn Labor’s 60-day dispensing policy after it starts next month, Nationals Senate leader Bridget McKenzie says.

The announcement followed a chaotic Thursday in the Senate that ended with Labor, the Greens and key crossbenchers voting down a Coalition attempt to disallow the 60-day dispensing regulations.

The government achieved this by forcing the disallowance motion to a vote, asking one of its own Senators to put it forward, then voting against it.

Ms McKenzie said the Coalition lodged a new disallowance motion late on Thursday afternoon, which will come up in the Senate when it returns to business in September.
