The sudden onset of paraplegia in a fit young man could be linked to Crohn’s disease, according to his doctor.

The 25-year-old Swedish tradesman, who competed in fitness championships, experienced sudden-onset bilateral leg pain and the urge to defecate after lifting a 10kg object at work, reported Dr Marco Manieri from the Skanes University Hospital ED in Malmo.

In the bathroom, he lost power to his legs and experienced faecal incontinence, Dr Manieri wrote in BMJ Case Reports.

His coworkers found him on the bathroom floor, and when the paramedics arrived, he complained of abdominal and bilateral leg pain, as well as numbness and paralysis of the legs.
