Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Omar Khorshid has been elected the next federal president of the AMA.

The vote was held electronically at the AMA’s virtual national conference on Saturday.

The Perth-based doctor replaces Melbourne GP Dr Tony Bartone after his two years in the hotseat came to an end at the conference.

Dr Khorshid says he will urge governments to increase health and aged care spending during the COVID-19 pandemic.
