A plastic surgeon who cycled through snow to stab a colleague set to testify against him in a disciplinary hearing has been found guilty of attempted murder.

Dr Jonathan Peter Brooks, 61, donned camouflage gear and cycled to the home of Dr Graeme Perks in the early hours of 14 January 2021, during a COVID-19 lockdown, armed with a crowbar, knife, petrol and matches.

Once he had broken in by smashing the conservatory doors of the Nottinghamshire home, in the village of Halam, he doused the lower floor, intending to set the house on fire, before stabbing the recently retired Dr Perks in the abdomen, the BBC reports.

“My recollection is that all I felt was guts sticking out,” Dr Perks said at Dr Brooks’ trial.
