Surgeon confronts ‘billion dollar’ criminal industry in his neighbourhood

When prominent vascular surgeon Dr John Crozier spoke out about the flourishing illegal tobacco trade colleagues were worried for him.
Some of it was lighthearted, but Dr Crozier is deadly serious in his efforts to do what he can to highlight the growing black market in cigarettes and its effects on public health.
He had publicly declared in Nine newspapers that he had been tracking illegal cigarette brands and their distribution by organised crime syndicates in Liverpool and the surrounding suburbs of south-western Sydney.
“Once that article came out, very quickly my phone was going off and there were statements of concern from peers,” Dr Crozier tells 6minutes.
