Surgeon wants breast checks taught in schools

An Australian breast cancer surgeon hopes a new campaign encouraging teenage girls to check their breasts will one day be as popular as the ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ message.
Associate Professor Sanjay Warrier, president of Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand, says self-checks should be taught in schools as a way of encouraging younger women to look after their breast health.
His ‘Look, Lift, Feel’ campaign, launched as part of October’s breast cancer awareness month, is a simple guide for women and girls to follow to undertake self-breast examinations.
“I believe teenagers and women in their 20s need to be more aware of their breast health, and more active in consulting their GP about how to prevent breast cancer early,” Professor Warrier says.
