A regional GP practice offering the Pfizer vaccine says it has been inundated with Sydney patients making a 140km round trip to secure a vaccination.

Dr Ann Ellacott says that within an hour of going live with online bookings last Tuesday, more than 100 registrations were submitted from people in Sydney – despite the fact that her practice is two hours away in Wollongong.

“It caught us off guard,” she said.

“I can understand people going outside their local government area to get medical care, but I certainly didn’t think they would be travelling 140km there and back.”
