A teenager who shot and killed a GP has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for the “cowardly, callous and senseless” murder.

Dr Luping Zeng, who practiced at the Waterford 7-Day Medical Centre in Brisbane, was shot in the abdomen as he was coming down the stairs in his garage late on 15 April last year.

The teenager and two men had driven to Dr Zeng’s home intending to steal his car.

Crown prosecutor Sam Bain told the Supreme Court of Queensland that just before he was shot, Dr Zeng had called out to his wife: “Wei Hong, call police. Somebody has a gun in hand”.
