TGA reveals second blood clotting event linked to AstraZeneca vaccine

The patient in her 40s remains in hospital and is in a stable condition

A second Australian case of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia has been linked to AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

It occurred in a woman in her 40s who was vaccinated in WA.

It is not clear whether the vaccination was administered in a GP practice or through one of the state’s vaccination clinics.

Last night, the TGA’s Vaccine Safety Investigation Group  made up of expert advisors including infectious disease physicians and haemotologists  reviewed the case in detail and concluded it was similar to those seen in Europe and the UK.
