TGA signs off on first COVID-19 booster vaccine for 5-11-year-olds

The TGA has granted provisional approval to Australia’s first COVID-19 booster for kids aged 5-11.
Pfizer’s paediatric Comirnaty vaccine received the TGA nod on Tuesday, but whether it is added to the vaccine rollout will depend on advice from ATAGI.
Until now, ATAGI’s official stance has been that, in pre-teens, the benefits do not outweigh the risks of severe COVID-19.
Even among children aged 12-16, boosters are only recommended for patients with a disability, severe immunocompromise or complex health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19.
