TGA tick moves Novavax shot closer to unvaccinated arms

The TGA has approved Australia’s first protein-based COVID-19 vaccine, with GPs being told they can expect deliveries “in the coming weeks”.
On Thursday, federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt announced that the vaccine made by Novavax — which has the brand name Nuvaxovid — had been provisionally approved for primary vaccination in adults 18 and older.
“We know that some people have waited for this vaccine, and … hopefully this will encourage those [unvaccinated] people in the last 5% to come forward,” he told reporters.
Early last year, the government agreed to purchase 51 million doses of the vaccine and is expecting the first shipment to arrive in February.
