TGA warns doctors after 116 children given nasal flu vaccine when too young
FluMist is TGA registered for use in children aged 2-17.
Nasal flu vaccine FluMist was given to at least 116 children younger than the minimum indicated age of two last month, the TGA says.
The TGA warned on Friday that 161 adverse events related to FluMist had been reported to its Database of Adverse Event Notifications (DAEN) in May, most involving children outside the indicated age range, although none were deemed serious.
Most reports simply stated that a child had been vaccinated outside the indicated age range, but some involved children younger than two having reactions such as vomiting, fever or rhinorrhoea.
The TGA stresses that DAEN reports do not necessarily indicate causation.
