The $230 million junior doctor payout — how it will work and why it could take over a year

Around 15,000 junior doctors who will share in a $230 million class action settlement have recorded another win.
Despite the four years of legal wrangling with NSW Health, lawyers will only take 5% of the money.
The typical figures in class actions is 25-40%, the Supreme Court of NSW said as it approved a formula for dividing the settlement cash.
“In the court’s experience … this is a remarkably high proportion of a settlement sum being paid to the plaintiff and group members,” said Justice Peter Garling.
