Hospital IT system that booked dead patients for operations declared a failure
A parliamentary committee has said it is not confident that the Acacia system is the right solution for the NT.
A multi-million dollar IT upgrade that locked doctors out of essential clinical information for patients with serious injuries and booked dead patients in for operations has been declared “not tenable”.
The Acacia project was first started 10 years ago and was intended to replace the five core clinical IT systems used by the NT public health system.
But in a report released last month, the NT Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee found it had largely failed.
The committee was told that hospital staff had reported multiple system freezes, confusing displays and records that locked when multiple staff tried to access the same patient’s record.
