Professor Colleen Loo says the TGA faced intense and emotive lobbying.

The TGA made a landmark decision last week to let authorised psychiatrists prescribe psilocybin and MDMA for PTSD and treatment-resistant depression, under strict conditions, starting in July.

However, not all psychiatrists welcome this new treatment option.

Professor Colleen Loo, from UNSW Sydney and the Black Dog Institute, says there is not enough evidence about the risk of relapse or the long-term safety outcomes with psychedelic therapies.
