The one question GPs can ask which might save a life

Dr Magdalena Simonis was again reminded of the power of a simple question when a patient sought help for diffuse back pain.Â
The Melbourne GP was more concerned with the woman’s overdue health screens than her back pain, so was focused on arranging those checks during the appointment last month.
She had nearly finished the gynaecological examination when she turned the conversation to how things were at home regarding intimacy with her partner.
The answer — that there was none and she was unhappy in her relationship — opened the door to Dr Simonis’ next question, one she has learned to ask more regularly.
