Meet the doctors who regularly fly interstate just to maintain their skills.
Dr Anna Carswell used to work as a GP obstetrician, providing cradle-to-grave care in a town of 6000 people. Now, she cannot even get onto a birthing suite.
A year ago, Dr Carswell moved from Goondiwindi in Queensland to Launceston in Tasmania to raise her family, encouraged by the Tasmanian Government’s promises of opportunities for rural generalists to deliver intrapartum care.
These opportunities never materialised.
Instead, she is performing “office gynaecology”, such as prolapse consultations and contraception procedures.
