‘The system put pressure on his brain and something broke’: Father of junior doctor who died by suicide
The father of a junior doctor who took his own life after being overwhelmed by workload pressures has called for a Senate inquiry into doctor suicides.
The case has also raised questions about the support given to doctors with mental health issues when they return to work.
The ABC last week reported that ‘David’ — not his real name — had been working at Calvary Mater Newcastle hospital in February 2020 when he lodged an incident report that raised concerns about patient management.
He then received a phone call telling him he had a black mark against his name and had ruined his career, his father claimed.
