‘The wounded started stumbling towards us’: Surgeon inside theatre when blast shook Gaza hospital

UK surgeon Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah was in theatre when the blast hit, leaving 'hundreds of severely wounded and dead'.

Doctors have described the chaotic horror that unfolded moments after a huge blast tore through the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza killing hundreds of people.

The explosion at the hospital is now the centre of an international row about who was responsible — the Israeli military or a militant group called Palestinian Islamic Jihad — with each side accusing each other of lies.

But British-Palestinian surgeon, Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah has spoken of a “massacre”.

He said he was in between patients in theatre when the explosion hit at about 7pm local time on Tuesday.
