‘There was a deep feeling in my soul that it was wrong’: Portraits of Australia’s VAD doctors
Voluntary assisted dying is now mainstream care in Australia. But its ethics still divide.
Six years after it was first legalised in Victoria, here we publish portraits of the people involved — the doctors, nurses, patients and their families — captured by photographer Julian Kingma.
Their stories include those doctors who have championed voluntary assisted dying (VAD) but found themselves confronting the tough realities of saying goodbye to those they love.
Commissioned by Go Gentle Australia, Julian’s book is called The Power of Choice.
