Australia’s vaccination slump in five graphs

Vaccine uptake for preventable diseases has not returned to pre-pandemic levels.

Immunisation coverage for children and adolescents is falling, with MMR and other critical vaccines frequently delivered late.

The interim Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2024, published by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) last week, shows vaccination levels have failed to rebound after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Full vaccination coverage at 12 months dropped to 91.6% in 2024, down 3.2 percentage points compared with 2020.

For children aged 24 months, coverage fell below 90% for the first time since 2016.
