Doctors suspended after ‘complete dereliction’ of IMG supervision rules

Dr Rachel Ganthala was allowed to treat patients while her supervisor was offsite.

An IMG has been suspended, along with two other doctors, after she was allowed to treat patients unsupervised while on provisional registration — even after two complaints to AHPRA about her care.

Dr Rachel Ganthala, 60, qualified in India in 1988 and practised for five years before migrating to Australia to raise her family.

She worked as a medical receptionist at a Melbourne practice, where the GPs urged her to requalify.

She gained provisional registration in 2018 under the highest-level supervision requirements, meaning she had to discuss each patient with her supervisor at the time of the consultation and before the patient left the clinic.
