Toddler dies after GP used morphine for circumcision sedation: coroner
A GP has been referred to AHPRA over the death of a toddler after he used morphine to sedate the child for an elective circumcision.
David Flynn never woke up following the procedure at a Perth general practice in December 2021, after being discharged while still “deeply sedated”.
An inquest was told that CCTV footage had captured the two-year-old’s mother carrying him to their car after leaving.
“[The GP] told Mrs Flynn that David would fall deeply asleep in the car and should wake up in about 2-3 hours,” the coroner wrote.
