Celebrity obstetrician, Dr Jennifer Gunter, shared the unusual case report from the mid-80s on Twitter in an attempt to break the endless stream of bad news
Why a bizarre, decades old case report about chocolate agar is enjoying a resurgence

A decades-old case report involving chocolate agar plates, ice cream, a hungry toddler and gonorrhoea is lighting up social media after being rediscovered by a celebrity obstetrician.

Published 36-years ago, the report on unusual circumstances surrounding the non-sexual transmission of gonorrhoea to a three-year-old was shared by Dr Jennifer Gunter.

Dr Gunter is the author of The Vagina Bible and made the post in an attempt to break up the “endless stream of horrifying news” in the US.

To set the scene, the toddler’s mother was a laboratory technician who visited doctors’ offices each day to collect cultures around San Antonio in Texas.
