A toddler with undiagnosed leukaemia would likely have survived if ED doctors had put more weight on a GP’s letter asking for a sepsis panel, a coroner has found.
Sandipan Dhar died at 21 months from sepsis on a background of undiagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, two days after his parents took him to a private ED at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) in Perth in 2024.
In the weeks before his death, his parents had taken him to three GPs, all at the same clinic.
At one appointment, Sandipan received a vaccination and an unusual red pimple formed at the injection site, which turned brown, then black.
