Australian patients are paying $3000 or more for whole-body MRIs that some radiology clinics claim can detect cancer, aneurysms and organ diseases before symptoms start.

Maybe you’ve already seen some of the targeted advertising, or the endorsements from wellness influencers on social media.

But the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) warns that the scans can trigger years of monitoring of harmless findings and may give less detail than targeted imaging, despite the price tag.

AusDoc spoke to RANZCR president Professor John Slavotinek about why he is concerned.
