‘Tragic’ burden of traumatic brain injury needs better strategies, say doctors

A study shows there’s been little change in the rate of deaths and hospitalisations over five years.

Doctors are calling for more effective strategies to tackle the “tragic” burden of traumatic brain injury after finding the rate of Australians hospitalised or dying of the injury unchanged over five years.

On average, there are about nine hospital admissions and 1.3 deaths from moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) each day, their analysis shows.
