A former Chief Psychiatrist can return to practice, after he was suspended under emergency powers over a relationship with a woman he helped in the course of his state role.

Until his suspension last year, Dr Aaron Groves was the chief psychiatrist in Tasmania — having held the same position previously in SA, WA and Queensland.

The woman had originally lodged complaints about another doctor with the Tasmanian Minister for Health back in March 2021, whose staff then contacted Dr Groves because of the woman’s “fragile” status.

Dr Groves helped arrange mental health treatment and spoke with the woman occasionally over the next few months about “practical aspects” of her complaint.
