A GP charged with manslaughter after a homebirth death had to be instructed in CPR technique by a triple zero operator, a jury has heard.
Prosecutors allege that Brisbane GP Dr Robyn James did not have her doctor’s bag when she arrived at the house of 41-year-old Vicki Butler in 2017, about an hour after Ms Butler had given birth.
They allege that Ms Butler died because of a postpartum haemorrhage that she experienced between Dr James’ arrival and when Dr James called an ambulance, more than 90 minutes later.
Dr James was criminally negligent in her delay in seeking emergency assistance for Ms Butler, and should have recognised the symptoms of postpartum haemorrhage, the prosecutors allege.
