GPs working for the rural bulk-billing corporate Tristar are owed $3.6 million in collective back pay following the near collapse of the business.

There are 62 GPs contracted to Tristar, which was close to liquidation in May after creditors started pursuing their debts in court.

In the Federal Court of Australia yesterday, administrators revealed that the company owed 605 different creditors a total of more than $25 million, including the $3.6 million owed to GPs, $2.8 million to its employees and more than $9 million to the federal tax office.

A group of Tristar doctors, fearful of their future prospects, attended a Zoom meeting with the administrators this month to find out whether they are likely to get any of their money back.
