Troubled GP aged care incentive back under the microscope

An evaluation of the scheme continues, with the AMA already calling for the ‘overly complex’ incentive to be scrapped.

GPs are being invited to share their latest experiences and challenges with the GP aged care incentive as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing evaluation of the program.

It comes amid continuing concerns over the incentive’s administrative burden, which has prompted some GPs to quit aged care work.

In June, the AMA called for the “overly complex and exclusionary” incentive to be scrapped and replaced by a simplified, tiered payment.

Association president Dr Danielle McMullen has estimated that GPs seeing one or two dozen aged care patients could be worse off under the current arrangements.
